Dehler initially worked as an academic, studying French, History and Philosophy. She credits her wife, the talented illustrator Julia Dufossé, for encouraging her to pursue her love for illustration. Dehler often places the utmost importance on everyday objects. Take The Egg, in which the perishable good, cracked and oozing, is positioned perfectly at center stage. The green hand, illuminated by the pink background and checkered floor, all fascinating individual segments within the overall piece, manage to bring us back to the smooth, flowing egg white and the perfect yolk. Dehler’s use of texture is just as important as her use of colour. Ultimately, she uses both to create surreal works that are often reminiscent of 60s and 70s illustrative designs
