Art Year: 2023

Hugo Bernier, is a graphic designer and illustrator, who blends ink drawing, airbrush painting, printmaking, and digital processing in his creative process. Influenced by catalogues, instruction manuals, magazines, and books from the 70s - 90s, his designs reflect a range of styles, from detailed and stylized to simplified shapes and abstractions. Hugo's subject matter dictates his stylistic approach, sometimes drawing inspiration from cultural phenomenons or folklore, while other times focusing purely on visual aesthetics.

Hugo had been extensively working with spirals as a visual theme, amassing a wide array of spiral forms that eventually culminated in the creation of his print, the Spiral Report. Recently, his research on crop circles sparked his fascination, as he discovered many forms that were both inspiring and reminiscent of his explorations with spirals. Motivated by his intrigue, he created two distinct pieces: one centred on crop circles (Crop Circles) as a visual theme and the other aimed to explain the phenomenon visually (Field Guides).
